Slovakia - Recirculating Aqua Systems and statues

Michal is a cheery guy and it was good to meet him at last after months of chatting online. He gave us a tour of the lycee and showed us the recirculating aqua system (RAS) that he built in an old garage at the school. A RAS is a closed system, which needs very little fresh water as the water in the system is filtered, cleaned and reused.

There are a lots of RAS in the States and other countries such as India. RAS can be an excellent choice, as long as animal welfare regulations are strictly adhered to. Michal's
system recycles about 95% of the water. It even has a automatic circular motion cleaning system so nobody has to clean the filters every day with a brush (which isn't the best job on a
fish farm).

He then showed us around other parts of the college; the vivarium
where the snakes and lizards live, the vet's clinic and classrooms as well as lovely, comfy sitting areas for staff and students.

I had the opportunity to chat to a class of students, in English, while they were waiting for their teacher to turn up with some test results😱. In all honesty, not everyone was anticipating a brilliant mark. We stayed at school for lunch and then headed to Bratislava for the afternoon.

The Danube runs through Bratislava, and carries boatfuls of tourists who come to see the sites. We parked the cars and sent the students off in a group to find a list of statues and to take a group selfie of each one.

To be honest, Lionel and I didn't manage to find all of them, but we did
stumble across a few other statues.

We returned to the lycee having enjoyed our afternoon and had dinner before the students went fishing and were forced to write their blogs.

I like Bratislava and I am looking forward to visiting the beautiful town again.
