Slovakia - emptying the lake at Budmerice
Today Lionel and I accompanied two students on their internship to Agrofarma, a fish farm in Budmerice.
The task for today was to empty a lake, sort the fish (there were four of five different species) and to transfer them into the oxygenated tanks on the lorries for transportation.

The boys were given brand new waders and we set off for the lake.
Their co-workers were already in action as we arrived, they had a huge net and were dragging it across the pond to harvest the fish. There were two very interested storks flying around who kept settling on the bank of the lake; keeping an eye out for their next meal.

The work was quite arduous and involved a lot of heavy lifting; the fish were transfered into large dustbins before being carried to the lorry. I felt exhausted just watching! 😜

Before we left for the afternoon, I had a very fruitful meeting with Mr Porkert, the boss, via a translater (I do not speak Slovak and Mr Porkert only speaks Slovak) so he enlisted the help of Nino, who speaks French, Slovak and English, to assist us with the paperwork. Mr Porkhert and I discussed the possibilty of BTS students completing an internship at his farm and he was certainly up for it, even offering to help secure accommodation for a student for two months that would be closer to the farm than the lycée is.
He said that he was very impressed with the two interns; Arthur and Piero and he said that they had been excellent on the farm, which made me feel very proud of them.
I presented him with a goodie bag of our products from La Canourgue; fish paste and tinned baby trout and I left the fish farm feeling very positive and optimistic.
