Romania - Finding our feet

It's always a bit of an adventure travelling to another country but when accompanied by eight teenage boys that aren't your own offspring, it can be quite unnerving.
We flew to Bucharest on Saturday and collected two Dacia Dusters (when in Rome!) and drove to the Taxi Hotel, which in itself was quite an experience. Imagine driving in London or Paris or any other capital city for that matter - yes, that type of rather stressful and frequently scary experience.

The hotel is clean, cheap and easy-ish to find.
The following day, we drove to Prejmer, stopping off for a gander at the Parliament building
in Bucharest before finding the Tara Barsei lycée, which is to be our home for the next two weeks.

The following day - Monday morning we we all went to the
first internship fish farm, a convenient ten
minute walk from the lycée.
The Salmontana fish farm is a small family run establishment rearing and transforming Rainbow Trout. The students carried out a variety of tasks, including transforming the fish and maintenance of the farm (removing the perniciously invasive Japanese Knotweed).

12th June 2024 - 5 of the boys worked in a transformation workshop, doing a variety of tasks at the Doripesco fish farm. Lionel and I spent the day with them (quite an experience for a confired vegetarian, I must say!) and we returned to Tara Barsei for a delicious dinner.

The evening was spent visiting Brasov with a mini treasure hunt for the boys.

We then enjoyed a picnic near the fountain at the Black Church I must say, however, that the treasure hunt was not strictly adhered to and the results were somewhat disappointing - some of the boys did a grand job and took some great pics in front of the list of buildings/monuments. All in all, everybody got to discover Brasov, which in itself is an important aspect of cultural integration and awareness.
