My first day at the farm !

I work in the Netherlands, in Rotterdam in a farm called "Floating Farm".

La début a vraiment été chaotique. Je me suis perdue trois fois car je n'arrivais pas à atteindre la ferme à cause des travaux. Du coup en partant 30 minutes à l’avance, je suis arrivée pile à l’heure. De plus, Romy (une employée) a été très gentille avec moi, ella m’a fait visiter la ferme et différents locaux :
- il y a le bâtiment d’acccueil pour les visiteurs et une salle du personnel avec tous les bureaux à l’étage
- en se dirigenat vers le bätiment flottant il y a en bas, la ferme verticale, la fromagerie et tout ce qu’il faut pour faire de la transformation fromagère et des yaourts
- au dessus de tout cela, il y a la ferme flottante avec les 40 vaches dans la stabulation. Elle ont accés à l’exterieur en descendant de l’autre coté de la rive dans une petite pâture.
Après la visite, j'ai nettoyé la stabulation.

Après avoir mangé, j’ai continué le nettoyage à la ferme et j’ai pu conduire le petit tracteur.
Et pour finir, j’ai donné à manger aux vaches. Cétait un mélange d’enrubanné, de céréales et d'oranges. OUI OUI des oranges dans la ration ! Ils utilisent les différents déchets de la ville pour leur ration. Ce sera ma thématique de stage : Comment la ferme utilise les déchets de la ville pour nourrir les vaches et assurer une production de lait correcte pour la transformation.

The beginning was really chaotic. I got lost three times because I couldn’t reach the farm due to roadworks, so despite leaving 30 minutes early, I arrived right on time. And then, Romy (a worker), she was really nice to me, she made me visit the farm and different places:
- there is the reception building for visitors and a staff room with all the offices upstairs
- heading towards the floating building, there is at the bottom, the vertical farm, the cheese dairy, and everything you need to make cheese and yoghurt.
- above all of these, there is the floating farm with 40 cows in the cow-shed. They reached the outside by going down to the other side of the bank in a small plot.
After the visit, I cleaned the stall all morning.

After eating, I keep on cleaning the farm and was able to drive the small tractor.
And finally, I fed the cows. It was a mix of brewing draughts, oranges, and silage . YES YES, oranges in the feed! They use different types of waste from the city for their feed. This will be my internship topic: How the farm uses urban waste to feed the cows and ensure proper milk production for processing.

I will work two mornings per week at the processed room and then the rest of time with the cows at the barn !
